Software industry attracts investment

Thailand's software industry has enjoyed impressive growth with investors swarming to invest almost 600 billion baht in the first seven months of this year, up more than 200 per cent from the same period last year, according to the Board of Investment (BoI).

BoI secretary-general Sathit Charnchaovakul revealed 69 investment projects had obtained investment promotions in the January-July period of this year compared with 34 projects in the corresponding period last year.

The investment value totaled 592.3 billion baht, up 244 per cent from 172 billion baht in the same period the year before, he said.

"The software business is one of target industries in which we want to encourage investment because it will help develop the country's business and industrial potential.

"Increased investment promotions granted to the business in the past seven months reflects successful cooperation between the BoI and Software Park Thailand to promote the software industry to a certain extent," he said.

Mr. Sathit said the BoI also had a plan to build up cooperation between Thai software companies and those in foreign countries such as India. (TNA)-
